Former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne just recently exposed the reasons behind his resignation, and opened about his supposed participation in a ‘deep state’ operation. Byrne stated he began a relationship with a female who turned out to be a Russian spy– Maria Butina– in 2015, which Byrne claimed led FBI officials to reach out and push him to form a romantic relationship with Butina.

Once Byrne found out about the alleged plan, he said he refused to pursue romantic encounters with Butina. He also stated he felt he was associated with– what he called– a politicized operation in which he was being given orders by the FBI. Orders that, according to Byrne, ended up being political espionage under the regulation of Peter Strzok and previous Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

The executive claimed he was offered up to one billion dollars to keep quiet, however declined the deal. Byrne also alleged President Trump, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio were all targets of the spying, and named previous FBI Director James Comey as one of the prime suspects.
