Formlabs is 3D printing parts of New Balance’s new sneakers

Tennis Shoes have been a quite efficient methods for helping 3D printing make the shift from prototype to production. Carbon in specific has found success with its Adidas partnership, printing out Futurecraft 4D shoes in limited quantities and scaling up significantly in the last couple of years.

Announced back in 2017, the New Balance x Formlabs collab has simply yielded two brand-new sneaker designs at considerably less than those Adidas. The shoes do not really deliver the long assured extreme modification promoted by 3D printing advocates, but they do bring a few of the technology’s distinct homes to a set of (reasonably) mass market sneakers.

The heart of the partnership is TripleCell, which has the ability to make a partially (10 percent) lighter heel than standard injection molding, along with some solid cushioning assistance. The heel is printed in lattice structures using Formlabs’ exclusive Rebound Resin, which the company says is ever bit as durable as more standard thermoplastic.
