Masters 2010 – Final – Ronnie 9-10 Mark Selby
by Monique in News | Posted on January 18th, 2010 | 48 Comments
Mark Selby is the Masters for the second time winning a very hard fought and high quality encounter on the decider. Ronnie will be disapointed as he lead 9-6 at one point, but we can only admire Mark’s fighting spirit and nerves. Well done Mark.

You were out played Ronnie, you acted spoilt the whole tournament. If you don’t want to play.. Don’t play. Stop grissling. Stop whinging. You lost a lot of fans this week.
January 18th, 2010 at 12:47 AM
the attitude he has is terrible, one frame needed and you lost it. its about time you started showing good sportsmanship, your attitude towards snooker is terrible like other people have said if you dont want to play.. dont play
January 18th, 2010 at 12:59 AM
Dear Ronnie. No matter what the result is,you are the best snooker play in our heart.
January 18th, 2010 at 1:12 AM
Rons you should have gave mark the credit he was due, he was persistant and held in there, if your hearts not in it mate then don’t play.
Love ya’

Good luck Ronnie the Welsh Open!

I can understand that Ronnie’s attitude doesn’t please everyone. However I’m extremely surprised that people don’t realise how much what he says, and how he says it, actually defeats his pretend that he does not care. He cares a lot obviously or he wouldn’t be that hurt when he loses. What he says isn’t targeted at the game, or his opponent, it’s targeted at his game, and how he feels about it given the unreal standards he sets for himself. He’s been this way for 17 years and I don’t think he will or indeed can change. I personally don’t see what’s wrong with him being himself and honest about his feelings. I also don’t think there is any unsportmanship in his attitude but I agree he should realise that his statements are sometimes hurtfull to his opponents. On Sunday Ronnie apologised to Mark Williams for that rather discrete fist clinching as he thought he should not have done this as it could have hurt Mark’s feelings, and I agree such gestures can hurt. This kind of reaction proves, in my opinion, he’s not insensitive or deliberately disrespectfull. His postmatches are very predictable, so I’d say, if you don’t want to hear it, don’t listen.
I will moderate this thread within this line: I have no problems with people expressing negative opinions towards Ronnie, however I will not accept anything I wouldn’t accept if it was targetted at any of Ronnie’s opponents. So I will invite bobby anderson to restate his opinion in a more acceptable way if he wants to.

I think that Ronnies performance was brilliant. Some of the shots he pulled off were genius! Those that take the effort to insult him are not true supporters and infact rude and calous individuals. You need to understand that people cope with stress and life in different ways. I for one think Ronnie is extremely brave to talk so honestly and I find him an inspiration. I know what its like to feel dis-enchanted with the world and it is hard enough to leave my house in the morning let alone get up on a stage surrounded by thousands of people and provide such a superb performance. Thank you Ronnie.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:18 AM
I get totally fed up with people going on about Ronnie’s attitude!!!!! He doesnt criticise anybody but himself…he is actually quite a sensitive guy…and if you look into his background he does suffer from depression so give the genius a break….
January 18th, 2010 at 11:03 AM

This Masters week was a snooker event and this final is a “match of decade”. Ronnie has fighted for every ball, has potted brilliant and has puzzled with great tactical game. But he is also only a human! Mark Selby was very strong and hold the nerves. Ronnie lost and I was so disappointed, all his fans was it, but, hey, 9-10 with a so high quality match is not a shame! When Ronnie should lost fans for this reason than it was no really fans. I think, most disappointed Ronnie was. Never mind! It’s only a game! Thanks Ronnie for this great snooker show, let’s look forward to next!
January 18th, 2010 at 2:27 PM
Ronnie, es una lástima haber perdido la final ayer, pero no decaigas eres uno de los mejores jugadores, capaz de grandes cosas no decaigas. Concentración y buena suerte para los torneos que vienen.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:38 PM
great week ronnie!! pity about the final, but when mark plays like that, you can’t get over the winning line sat in the chair.i think you need to go all out for the next five years,-commit fully- get eight world titles, and then do other things? you really have to beat hendrie’s record!c’mon man!!
January 18th, 2010 at 4:18 PM
Ronnie, you are the only reason I continue to watch snooker. I thought Jimmy White hit the nail on the head last night when he stated ‘Without a shadow of a doubt, Ron is the best player he’s ever seen’. In my opinion a worthy judge! Ignore all this negativity, you’re a true legend. Like some of the greats a tortured genius. All the best Ron.
January 18th, 2010 at 4:57 PM
Ron…..I was gutted to see you lose last night.. Win or lose you have the best bottom in the game. Don’t listen to the haters, keep playing so I can keep watching. Snooker needs you. See you at the welsh…. Jen xx
January 18th, 2010 at 5:02 PM
Dear Ronnie, If you don’t want to play, please play anyway! It’s a joy watching your game and keep your mind far away from all the negative comments.
As a dutchman I like attractive, attacking football, your game is no different. Keep up the pace!!
Message for the negatives: fortunately Ronnie is a human being, not any robot. Let him be!!
January 18th, 2010 at 5:06 PM
And for all of those who are critical about his attitude: If you don’t want to see it, then don’t watch!
January 18th, 2010 at 5:26 PM
Dear Ronnie ! dont worry about the masters final. Everybody knows YOU’RE THE MOST TALENTED AND A BEST PLAYER IN THE SNOOKER HISTORY! Heads up and will wins the welsh open!
January 18th, 2010 at 5:36 PM
Do not criticize him!His childhood was difficult for him.his father ,his mother. he raised his sister alone. and he was depressed .and yes he’s a sensitive guy but what’s you’r problem with this?? i totally understand him! DONT SAY ronnie lost a many fans this week .THIS IS’NT True . I was Ronnie fan i’m ROnnie fan and i will be RONNIE FAN! HE’S the best i love him soo much . C’MON RONNIE THE ROCKET!
January 18th, 2010 at 5:41 PM
You know Ronnie, I’ve watched you play snooker for years, and undoubtedly you have a natural flair for the game.As the years have gone by, your game has grown and become polished, even when you throw caution to the wind. But you know, the only real thing that spoils you, is inside your head. Without a shadow of a doubt, you have an attitude problem, which comes across to everybody, no matter who they are. It’s a shame coz at 35 years of age, you should have mellowed a bit. You have money, good health, your toys, a huge fan-base, you’re a good looking bloke, but I find it difficult to understand why you don’t seem to find peace with yourself…it’s your only bogie man. Take a good luck at the man inside, and ask yourself why?
And if you dont wanna play anymore, don’t play!
Find your peace Ronnie, whether it’s in snooker or not.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:42 PM
Ronnie you are a total genius!you are the reason my family and myself watch snooker. You have more ability in your big toe than the other top 15 players in the world have together. Was gutted last night, still am gutted because it is so frustrating because of how good you are! i know people cant play well all the time but you beat yourself more often than not, they don’t.That green last night?!.Yeah you should have won more world titles and masters etc but george best should have lived longer, gazza should have played for england more, alex higgins should have won more! your a genius! Hendry?Davis?John Higgins? nah your the best ronnie.WIN SHEFFIELD!!
January 18th, 2010 at 6:45 PM
Gutted for you ronnie, you played some fab shots but as you said didn’t really get many chances in the final few frames and the run of the ball seemed to favour Mark.
You played your part in a in a hugely enjoyable match. Win or loose your true fans will stick by you and continue to support you.
Your attitude and character is what makes you you and so likeable. So keep your head up and look forward to the next tournament
.

January 19th, 2010 at 12:00 AM
Fantastic match. Great snooker played. Ronnie didnt have many chances in last 4 frames. Mark played well.
Ronnie No matter what anyone says YOU ARE THE MOST TALENTED GIFTED PLAYER I’VE EVER SEEN. Your the reason why i love snooker. I WILL always support you.
A total GENIUS!
January 19th, 2010 at 8:46 AM
Ronnie is the reason I follow snooker. Of course he can’t win all the tournaments. And if he played as we like, always atacking, always showing is natural talent, more difficult it would be.
For me Ronnie is like a friend, someone that you always will love. I love to see his game.
This past week he showeed us some peace of defending, I remenber that white ball, almost falling in the hole
Normally he wins, I’m glad about it. But when he looses, no big deal. He is such a talent that no matter win or loose, for me he will be allways number one. The masters is past, let’s look forward to the Welsh open.
C’MON RONNIE!!!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:46 AM
Ciao Ronnie, sei sempre il numero uno !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:55 AM
I love watching you play. All the other players are very boring compared to YOU.
My blood pressure went up on Sunday willing you to beat Selby! Still can’t believe that you didn’t win!
Please keep on playing your brilliant game.
Ronnie you’re still the greatest!!
January 19th, 2010 at 3:01 PM

Congrats on getting to the Final Ronnie. I loved the Final, it was a brilliant match
. You played some fantastic shots, but I think the nerves got you in the 4th frame, but you played extermely well to get to the final.
My dad thinks your fantastic, he can’t understand how you can play with your right and left hand, to be quite honest. I don’t know how you manage it either.
I think your amazing, I love you Ronnie
.
Good luck in the Welsh Open and the World Championship. I hope you win Ron.
Come on Ronnie!!! I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
January 20th, 2010 at 2:45 PM
Very interesting website!!!!! Working from home never realised The Rocket had a website!!!!! I went to Wembley for the first time to watch snooker, watched Ronnie Play Neil Robertson and Peter Ebdon… I had a really good time and was amazed by the whole experience and would go again. I think Ronnie is a great player, he may have his own issues, but doesn’t everbody, ours are just not put publicised. It’s all down to presure, for those with negative comments you try being under the spotlight!!!! And as for Ronnie’s comments against other players, heard of a sense of humour!!!!! Ronnie stay as you are, you’ve got wicked sense of humour and we all have issues in life.Pull your socks up and get on with it, theres always another game!!!!
January 20th, 2010 at 5:23 PM
HELLO RONNIE,
I WENT TO SEE YOU PLAY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AT WEMBLEY LAST WEEK.IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!I WISH I DID IT MANY YEARS AGO.I WILL SURELY DO IT AGAIN.
I DID NOT SLEEP SUNDAY NIGHT AFTER YOUR LOSS BUT IT MADE ME LOVE YOU EVEN MORE.DON’T LET IT GET TO YOU TOO MUCH PLEASE.I HOPE THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY SNOOKER FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT YOU BRING JOY TO MY LIFE AND TO MUCH MORE PEOPLE ALL AROUND THE WORLD WHEN I READ THIS WEBSITE.I HAVE BEEN TAKING HOLIDAY WHENEVER YOU ARE ON TELEVISION FOR THE LAST 10-15 YEARS AND HAD MANY GREAT MOMENTS.BUT I THINK THE BEST IS YET TO COME WHEN YOUR FATHER IS RELEASED LATER THIS YEAR I KNOW IT WILL GIVE YOU EXTRA MOTIVATION.BECOMING WORLD CHAMPION IN FRONT OF YOUR PAPA EYES THAT WILL BE THE BEST MOMENT OF YOUR SNOOKERCAREER AND I CAN ASSURE YOU A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL START TO CRY WHEN YOU FALL IN YOUR FATHERS ARMS.
TAKE CARE RONNIE,I PRAY EVERY NIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE I LOVE AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THEM.

What an intresting comment How can you love Ronnie. He’s a great snooker play in fact in my eyes the best and a very handsome man but how can you say you love him. Also It would be nice to see Ron, win the world championship, and yeah his Father will be relased in time for the final. But let’s not forget the family who have lost a son. I don’t know the whys and wherefores and I don’t want to know but still we have to think about others
January 21st, 2010 at 9:31 AM
I would beg everyone to keep comments on this thread on topic which is the Masters final. I would ask in particular that people refrain discussing Ronnie’s family and private life on here.
Also this is for short comments related to the posts and news on this page. If you want to discuss broader subjects related to Ronnie’s carreer I invite you to join the forum (see link above)
