I started playing snooker in the late 60’s and it wasn’t until the Hurricane arrived on the scene that the game went from a smokey hall in the back street with a lot of ‘old men’ playing snooker, billiards, pool and golf(snooker table version) with games that lasted for hours, with Alex came the excitement of fast games and extraordinary potting even with the older heavier balls. So now a 30-45min game was over in about 20 mins with Alex and it was fast and furious. He was the 1st to make snooker a real spectator sport that kept you on the edge of your seat. You just wanted him at the table all the time. God Bless you Alex.

But we must naydti the strength

Vale Alex Higgins
From Australia may I pass my condolance for this loss of this of wizard of the six pocket table.
I have the most vivid memories of seeing Alex play here in Austalia when he was a very young man , in his mid twenties at the City Tattersalls Club in Sydney. His title then of Hurrican was no understatement, he was in fact blinding in his brilliance and a great humourist in company. We had a very funny day together one day at the Australian Jockey Club Randwick Autumn Meeting .
Another day Alex challenged Mr Norman Squire (many years Alex senior ) to 21 frames at City Tatts, Norman was a slow player and brilliant positionalist and Alex was thwarted on almost every moove he made but his brilliance and seen him through to win 11-10. I pray that his family can look upon this genious with good light and love the memory of this flawed but amazing human being . Some birds are not meant to be caged but must always fly , sometimes high; sometimes low.

Alex higgins was a genius on the table sadly a troubled man off the table, but that was his business, as for on the table he was unique and always had me glued to the TV screen when he played, snooker would simply not be where it is today without Alex, RIP alex i bet your already playing snooker in heaven
