Ronnie lost out tonight, 13-11 to Mark Selby, in a match strewn with both errors and brilliant breaks by both players. The better player won on the day, congratulations to Mark Selby.

I have switched off comments on this thread due to the select few who have posted abusive and threatening messages to both players.  If, in the future, this continues then comments will be turned off on all threads permanantly and if you wish to pass comment on the information held in these threads then please register on our forum. Im so sad :( I didnt watch the game tonight, only the last frame. Ronnie has played so well this tournament that I was sure he would win. Im so sad that its all over for him and makes me not want to watch anymore :( Hope Robertson goes on to win now. Youre still the winner in my eyes though Ron xx

Ronnie, so sad that I won’t be able to see you for the rest of the tournament. I’m gutted, you played some brilliant snooker, I really thought you had a great chance for the 4th title. The worst thing is that you lost to the very boring Mark Selby, what a disgrace slowing the game down making you and the audience so frustrated. Not good for snooker.
Can’t believe now that its so long til next season, but wish you a fantastic summer holiday. Love you xxx

Ronnie, beat the hell out of him(Selby) next time. After what happened at the “Masters” i would’ve loved it if you had beaten him. It is sad to see you out of the tournament.
This guy Selby is too methodical and it is boring.

Wishing you happiness and a lovely summer break. See you next season. Can’t wait!

Gr8 match. Breakbuilding was high quality this afternoon. Both Ron & Mark made mistakes just Ron more than Selby.

So sad you lost :( :(

    Hart work.
    No success.
    Sadness?-No.
    You showed a brilliant fight!
That’s important, not loos or win.
You have played a good season with many great matches.
You showed that you can fight and that you love this sport without being a winner all the time.
    Thank you for this! :-)
    Wish you a wonderful sumertime.
And a good night, to night.
    Sleep well!

As one of your biggest fans, I’m gutted that you lost. I had an argument with the wife because of my bad mood and now need to go to Dixons to buy a replacement TV having thrown my old set out of the window. This woke the baby up and the house is now in meltdown.
One more world title would create a legacy as strong as Hendry’s. I physically retched when I saw that one-dimensional, painful, Mr Bean-like Selby shouting ‘Come On’ after beating you. The thing is Ronnie, I worry that I’ve got more anger about the defeat than you have? Good luck.

LOL all these comments are funny, I think we should all join the Facebook site entitled ‘Mark Selby is a ****’.

Mark is a good player but very slow and tiresome, what I hate most is the fist pumping at the end of his matches.

Ronnie here is a tip for you, TAKE A YEAR OUT OF SNOOKER it’s not quitting mate it’s sitting back and evaluating what YOU want, you say you love the game still but you haven’t played well fo r17 years, ok well for your standards maybe you feel you haven’t but you do need some time out and to be fair a little help, get your head straight and sort your life out then come back and show us and yourself how good you really are….

I remember playing you over 5 frames at the Plymouth Pavillions some 10 years ago, personally I want oto see that fun loving have a laugh character again not the down in the dumps one you are showing now.

Ronnie is the best at snooker and he is the only reason i even started to watch snooker and picked up a cue. His quick shots and not wasting any time unlike other players who prefer to take long hours on matches. Its nice see ronnie win but even though he looses he certaintly puts on a show. I dont blame him for want to leave snooker. He has definitely changed the game of snooker.

  24. Rumen Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 10:54 AM

Ronnie, I hope it’s plain to you that very mary people worldwide watch the game only because of you. I think your attitude yesterday night was not professional. You let yourself be disturbed by something or someone, and it affected your game so much that you far beyond your standards. But when you lose just ’cause you’re in a bad mood you let so many people down, I think you should think on this a little and even though you’re feeling not comfortable at the table try to put some more efford. It was not much you needed to beat Selby but it looked to me like you wouldn’t give yourself the chance to do so.

  25. Sally Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 11:01 AM

@Rumen, I’m 100% sure that if he could win he would. I bet it was painful for him to lose, nobody likes being defeated.
It’s not like, he doesn’t want to win, I think he just need to overcome some mental obstacles, which he put himself through.

  27. Rumen Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 11:23 AM

@Sally, it looks like a mental thing to me, too. Ronnie has definitely the talant and skills to beat anyone, the only battle he has to win is the one inside his head.

  28. Jenx Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 11:57 AM

Right, I have read all the comments and some are really funny, even for the fact Ronnie is unlikely to even read them. But just in case he does. Ronnie I wish more than I can say you’d stuck it to Mark boring Selby. But he won and that’s the game of snooker. Well done for all you great matches, you have been so entertaining, for example: The touching ball thing was so funny although it did look touching. I KNOW you wouldn’t lie its not the Ronnie’s I know anyway.
I listened to your post match interview and you said you take matches like this on the chin. But we all know it’s gotta hurt, it hurt us(your real supports) your but we can’t wait to see you play in the next seasons, so keep going.

Snooker is just a small part of your life you have a lovely family and a lot of admiration for who you are, whatever happens on the snooker table.

Your a true Champion a bit unpredictable but all great genius are, enjoy the summer.

I just can’t believe it… I was watching the game and I was so sad. I was sure Ronnie would win his fourth championship, after beating Williams. Selby was so lucky. But it means nothing. Absolutely nothing. That’s the game, that’s how life is. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don’t.

I know Ronnie will be very disappointed and upset with himsef, but he shouldn’t be. He made mistakes, but everyone does and he had some wonderful moments.

I am trying to be patient till the next season.

    Good luck Ronnie!

  33. Droggy Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 1:10 PM

Whilst I fully appreciate why the masses enjoy watching Ronnie for his unpredictability and doubtless geniality I would like to suggest that snooker would be a far better game without him.
Within the game itself we have many honest respected pro’s who all generally get along very well – and then there’s ron who has absolutely no respect whatsoever for any of his fellow players.
Please follow your threat through and retire or preferably continue playing and change your attitude to the game and all players and officials alike – I cannot see the latter being possible for you however.

  34. Alla Says:

  35. Short Fuse Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 1:22 PM

I totally concur with Droggy’s comments. Ronnie needs to stop whingeing and learn how to lose with dignity first. Just because he’s the most talented player on the planet doesn’t give him the right to win tournaments just by turning up. He should realise that the game of snooker is bigger than him and his ego. Selby deserved to win because he didn’t let Ronnie’s flippant demeanour affect his play, that’s what true champions are made of. SF.

So true anne. He keeps this game interesting otherwise it would be boring as hell no one in snooker has a personality really, at least they dont show it.

  50. Paul Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 11:20 PM

@Bob – The only thing that is boring, is Ronnie’s continual bleating on about how ‘he is going to quit’, ‘I don’t need snooker’, ‘I’ve not played well and I don’t care’, ‘mentioned that again and I won’t do interviews.

Now THAT is what is boring – tedious, and so ‘trying to be Alex Higgins, and create a myth’.

The fact is, the likes of Hendry, John Higgins, Steven Davis act with sheer class, win or lose, and are gentleman of the sport.

You (Ronnie), I don’t think you could ever say you had class, or ever say you were a gentleman of the sport.

The way you have acted over the last 2 weeks has been attention-seeking and totally juvenile, and you have also proven that you are a very bad loser, with zero dignity in defeat.

Sad, but not unexpected from you, Ronnie. You are a car crash waiting to happen, and snooker is far too good a sport to indulge you in your petulant behaviour.

  51. Ganzo Says:
    April 29th, 2010 at 11:43 PM

Ronnie, you are the reason why millions of people watch snooker. Please try to enjoy whilst playing it for these fans that worship you.

  54. Monique Says:
    April 30th, 2010 at 8:09 AM

I was in the press room and I heard all of Ronnie’s press conference (not the BBc televised one, the one for the media)
I want to put a few things right.
    1. Ronnie just briefly “hinted” he might quit, but he also said very clearly he loves the game, always will and wants to stay involved. Asked whether he would be there next season his answer was “Of course! I hope.” with a smile. so there is no intention obviously to quit here and now.
    2. Ronnie indeed said he was struggling with his form and his game and that this is painful to him. Some media have presented this as “downgrading” his opponent. What they didn’t say is that asked what he thought of Marks game he answered he played very well, very well indeed, with a smile and thumb up.
Why part of the media feel the need to always show him in the most negative light I don’t know, but there is a clear bias in some of the papers. I suppose it’s what they think will sell best.
I think the most comprehensive report, and the most neutral one, is on Global Snooker Center, a site and people, that serves the interests of snooker for years without bias. (www.global-snooker.com/Global-Snoker-News-Betfred-World-Championship-Selby-ousts-OSullivan-100428.asp)

Anyone who knows the game knows you are the best player to pick up a cue a genius no doubt. I would advise you however to not give interviews for at leat an hour after your games cos you don’t come accross as a nice person at all. The last thing I’d think of doing is to watch a game of snooker and when someone I don’t particularly like gets beat think I know what I’m going to go on his website and tell him what a (expletive deleted) he is! Do you know what type of people do that… (expletive deleted) !!!

PS, Was only thinking when watching te other night he is reflecting his beloved Arsenal. A few years ago they were formidable, pretty to watch, unbeatable, entertaining yet last couple of years h lost the winning edge, still marvellous to watch, fabulously entertaining and should win alot more than they actually are. Then again I’d tune in and watch Arsenal every weekend and wouldn’t pay with monopoly money to watch ManUtd and no I’m not a Arsenal fan!

18 world championship attempts and only 3 wins including defeats to these greats of the game, Marco Fu, David Gray, Darren Morgan. Greatest player to ever hold a cue i don’t think so and judging by his recent interview after being outfought by the tenacious and very gifted Selby deep down I thing Ron knows it.
